The Uganda Karate Federation (UKF) is preparing to make its official national debut at the 12th Commonwealth Karate Championships. Scheduled to take place from November 5 to 8, 2026, in Glasgow, Scotland, this prestigious event marks a vital step forward in showcasing Uganda’s rising karate talent on a major global platform.

Hosted by Karate Scotland under the sanction of the Commonwealth Karate Federation (CKF) and certified by the World Karate Federation (WKF), the tournament will gather top karateka from across the Commonwealth family.

Tournament Overview & Dual Competition Structure

Held at the state-of-the-art Glasgow International Arena (Emirates Arena), the 2026 edition features two distinct events over four days of action:

1. Commonwealth Karate Championships (Elite): November 5–6, 2026: This is open exclusively to national team athletes nominated by their governing bodies. it is restricted to a maximum of two entries per nation per category, featuring both Kata and Kumite across Youth (U14), Cadet (14–15), Junior (16–17), Under-21, Senior, and Para-Karate divisions.

2. Commonwealth Karate Club Championships: November 7–8, 2026: Open to all WKF-affiliated club athletes across the Commonwealth, with no restrictions on entry numbers per category.

For Uganda, sending a national delegation to Glasgow represents a significant expansion of the country's international presence in combat sports.

Following the recent appointment of UKF President Jamil Miiro to the interim Executive Bureau of the UFAK Eastern Region, participating in the Commonwealth Championships reinforces Uganda's ambition to build world-class competitive standards ahead of regional hosting bids and continental trials.
